TERMS

Terms of Use

Effective: October 25, 2026 · Operator: JC Studio

1. Purpose and scope

These terms set out the conditions for using the Drift Letter app and its information website provided by JC Studio. How we handle personal information is explained in the Privacy Policy. Questions can be sent to whdcjf8172@gmail.com.

2. What the app provides

The app lets you choose your beach, write letters and set glass bottles adrift, follow each bottle’s day-by-day drift calculated from public ocean data along with the sea’s log, view charts of the strait and the whole sea, and find the lighthouse keeper’s bottles that wash up on your beach and keep bottles in your drawer. No login account is created. The current version of Drift Letter is a solo version, and the letters you send are not delivered to other users.

You can send one bottle a day for free. After that, you can send one more bottle by watching to the end a rewarded ad that you choose to play, up to twice a day. The app includes a banner ad at the very bottom of the screen and this rewarded ad; there are no interstitial (full-screen) ads. See the Privacy Policy for how ad providers handle information and the choices available to you. The terms of third-party products and services shown in ads are set by their providers, and ads do not represent our recommendations.

Drift Letter Premium is a one-time lifetime purchase (non-consumable) sold through Google Play in-app billing. It lets you send up to five bottles a day with no ads. There are no subscriptions. With the Google account you bought it with, you can get it back with Restore purchase after reinstalling the app or changing phones. Payments and refunds follow section 7.

3. Ocean data and the limits of the drift calculation

Each bottle’s path is a simulated drift calculated from public ocean forecast data (HYCOM currents, wind and water temperature; NOAA WAVEWATCH III waves), with the effect of the wind and some random scatter added. We do not guarantee that a real glass bottle would follow the same path, and the forecast data itself contains errors. Where and when a bottle comes ashore involves probability calculations.

The current, wind, wave and water-temperature figures in the app must not be used for safety-related decisions such as sailing, fishing, swimming, rescue or disaster response. For such decisions, please check official information from weather services and maritime authorities. Data may arrive late or not at all because of maintenance, delays or changes on the data servers; in that case, the bottle continues its drift once the data can be received.

Please do not throw bottles or rubbish into the real sea. Drift Letter was made so that you can send a letter out to sea without polluting it.

4. Your letters and how you use the app

You own the rights to the letters you write in the app. Please do not write other people’s personal information in your letters. The app will not let you seal text that looks like a phone number, email address, postal address or link, but it cannot catch every case. You may not use the app to infringe on other people’s personal information or privacy.

Letters and bottle records are kept in the app’s storage on your device. They may be lost if you uninstall the app or clear its data, or if your phone breaks or is replaced, and we cannot restore records kept only on your device.

5. Content and prohibited conduct

The app’s design, the text and editorial content we wrote, and the software are protected by the rights of JC Studio or the rightful owners. You may use them for personal purposes within what the app provides. This does not restrict uses permitted by law.

The poems in the lighthouse keeper’s bottles are works whose copyright has expired (by Yun Dong-ju, Kim So-wol and Han Yong-un; Shimazaki Tōson, Ishikawa Takuboku, Yosa Buson, Miyazawa Kenji and Matsuo Bashō; Emily Dickinson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Christina Rossetti and others), and the lighthouse keeper’s bottles are never made to look like letters written by real people. The coastline comes from Natural Earth (public domain), beach names from © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), and ocean data from HYCOM and NOAA WAVEWATCH III (via PacIOOS). Third-party materials such as open-source software and fonts are subject to their own licences.

You may not disrupt the service, bypass security restrictions, send excessive requests to the data servers through the app, or infringe on others’ rights.

6. Changes to the service and liability

We may change the app or discontinue some features to fix errors, improve features, or respond to circumstances at the data providers or changes in the operating environment. Changes that significantly affect your rights will be announced in the app, on the store listing or on this website. These terms do not exclude or limit our liability under applicable law or your rights as a consumer.

7. Payments and refunds

Paid features are sold through Google Play billing, and refunds are handled under Google Play’s refund policy. If more than 48 hours have passed since your purchase, or Google Play did not refund it, email whdcjf8172@gmail.com with your order number (it starts with GPA.). Digital features provided immediately upon payment can no longer be withdrawn (cancelled) once you start using them, under Article 17(2) of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce of the Republic of Korea. However, if a feature is not provided properly or differs from its description, we will refund you.

8. Ending use and deleting records

You can stop using or uninstall the app at any time. How to delete the records on your device and your usage statistics is explained on the Support page. Because there is no service account, there is no account deletion procedure.

9. Changes to these terms and contact

If we change these terms, we will update the date on this page and announce important changes appropriately before they take effect. Disputes are governed by applicable law and lawful jurisdiction, and mandatory protections that apply to you take precedence.
